Topic 1: Why DHL suspends receiving goods with a value not exceeding USD800

1.The exemption policy for small tariffs below USD800 in the United States will cease on May 2, 2025.

2. DHL has suspended the receipt of all goods with a value exceeding USD800 on express delivery routes from China to the United States for the following reasons:

A) Due to high tariffs, the risk of the consignee rejecting the goods has greatly increased.

B) The risk of the consignee refusing to pay customs duties to DHL increases significantly after receiving the goods.

C) The customs clearance speed has been hindered and delayed, resulting in a significant increase in the amount of goods that require formal customs clearance. DHL does not have enough manpower to handle the formal customs clearance of goods.

D) The behavior of evading tariffs by underreporting the value of goods has greatly increased, customs inspections have been strengthened, and it is expected that the situation of seizure and abandonment of goods will increase significantly.

Topic 2: Latest Impact

1. UPS reduces domestic flights to the US, causing delays in delivery time.

2. US line: DHL requires a minimum price declaration of USD30 per shipment, even for 0.5kg samples.

3. Express delivery company agents are demanding that the shipper sign a customs duty deposit. If the consignee refuses to pay, the shipper promises to pay.

4. A Shenzhen shipper received a customs duty bill of 200000 RMB for a single shipment from DHL and requested payment from the shipper.

5. DHL/UPS/FEDEX agency companies need to collect a deposit of twice the declared value of the goods as a customs duty deposit before shipping.

Many shippers are currently delaying shipments and will wait until May 5th when they return to see the latest market trends on the US route before deciding how to ship.
